Students of the Medical University of Warsaw had a chance to listen to Dr Wojciech Ejsmond from the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Sciences talking about the heritage of preserved medical treatises recorded on papyri from 1,000 years ago. B.C. These could tell us what diseases were common among the builders of the pyramid, what medical conditions could be found by examining mummies as well as a story about a mummy on which surgery was performed and which traces were found in a papyrus from the 19th century B.C. In the end, students could try their hand at writing hieroglyphs on papyri using replicas of ancient writing instruments.
