Tramwaj Zwany Pożądaniem

Agnieszka Bogusz
The project “Streetcar called desire” consists of 3 tramway actions and Closing Ceremony. Two of three tramways’ events have already taken place (20th October – Warsaw, 3rd December – Łódź). First step was to organize graphics, media, PR, local cooperation. This step was the hardest for us, because it coincided with the holiday period. The long-distance on-line conversations about the details, finding reliable partners, executives and coordinators, making our plan of action and plan of budget be realistic and specific. These were the most difficult parts to make at this time. Sometimes we had to even reschedule our holiday plans. Then in the very last minute one of our major partners rejected our logo and in consequence other graphics and orders with this. Luckily we managed to change everything in the way that satisfied both of us. Another “bad luck” happened just before the first action. Everything (rent a streetcar, DJ, photographer, parties in 5 clubs, IFMSA educators, gadgets) was already organized when one day before the action we’ve got a message that the date of the first event must be postponed one week due to mourning in Warsaw after massive bus accident. Luckily we managed to organize the action with all attractions we had planned one week later. First edition was a big succee in my eyes, although the date was changed due to mourning. The educators were visible: they wore either brand T-shirts, or police costumes. Every volunteer get a free condom and the business card with a map of tram route, clubs and free HIV testing places. There were distributed in clubs, tram and universities. The tram was full of people, educators and...condoms of course, so everyone could get one and learn something new about prevention of HIV/AIDS and STI's. The tram was divided into two sections: educational zone with safe sex quiz and party zone with Dj and lots of fun and music . People could enjoy both of them, get free condoms, and expire the knowledge about HIV/AIDS and get the information about our clubs. We had our stands in 5 clubs, with 5-7 educators in each one. The stands were characteristic: the main scene was the Safe-sex game: the board full of colorful balloons. There was a question about HIV/AIDS in each one, eg. What is the best way of prevention? Which behavior is safe and which one is not? Where can you get tested? Are the tests in Poland free and anonymous? The volunteer was about to pierce a balloon and answer the question while our educators were taking care of medical property of the answer and knowledge. The volunteers could even learn how to put the condom on (by using the dildos). During this night there was app. 10 000 students making tour de 21clubs, so we assume app. 1000 young people were educated by us face-to-face and our message reached even more. The main message was to use condoms. We educated young people that this is the best way to prevent themselves from HIV and STI’s. 1300 MTV-IFMSA brand condoms and 1000 “normal” condoms were distributed. Moreover we distributed many gadgets brand with www.stopAIDS.pl – our web site with many information about HIV/AIDS, STI’s, safe sex etc.. We wanted to brake the taboo and abashment existing around condoms. Tramwaj oraz 5 warszawskich klubów: Karmel, Obiekt, Remont, CBA, Opium
